The EFI data-collection system is HIPAA-compliant.
Each patient’s identity is known only to the surgeon entering the data through a random number unique to each patient. No patient-identifying data is collected at any time by this EFI website. Confidential data from each patient can be accessed only by each patient’s own physician.
These data can also be downloaded in Excel format, but only by each patient’s own physician. This enables each surgeon to follow their own patients to enhance quality of care.
Surgeons are asked to obtain, from their endometriosis patients undergoing operative procedures, informed consent that will enable their EFI data to be used, on a completely confidential basis, to perform research on endometriosis. If such informed consent is obtained and documented by each patient’s surgeon on the EFI website, then their confidential information may be used in research studies intended to improve our understanding and treatment of endometriosis in patients desiring pregnancy.
